The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time

Projection Design | Yellow Tree Theater

The Broadway/West End production is infamous for its aggressive use of theatrical spectacle to illustrate the world of Christopher, a boy with autism who sets out to solve the murder of the dog next door. Surprisingly, almost none of those bells and whistles are explicitly called for in the script.

With considerably less resources, myself and the rest of the design team set out not to match the original production, but to craft a unique, intimate production that better fit Yellow Tree Theater’s modest thrust stage. Care was taken to make the show more accessible to children like Christopher, whose sensitivities might otherwise prevent them from seeing themselves onstage.

This was one of the closest collaborations I've ever experienced, and a deeply gratifying show to design.
